Grady Burkett is a junior psychology major and a third-year athlete on the Whitworth men’s golf team. Originally from Western Washington, he enjoys the warmer months in Spokane – perfect for more rounds of golf! We asked Grady what it’s like being a student-athlete:
“Golf has brought me a lot of joy since I started playing for Whitworth, but having the opportunity to do good in the community as a team has probably been my favorite experience. … It is nice to find time to bring the focus away from yourself and serve God as well as others.
“There are a lot of ups and downs in the game of golf, and it can be hard to stay positive when things are not going your way. I have learned that no matter what results you are getting on the golf course, there is always a way to use those results to God’s benefit. This is rewarding because at the end of the day, I am not playing to make myself look good, but instead to show others the good that God has done in my life.
“I was not very talented at golf coming out of high school and had very little experience with competitive golf. Coach Kramer took a chance on me and gave me the opportunity to play golf for him, which has been a true blessing. I learned a lot about golf over the last several years, but I have also learned countless life lessons from both Kramer and the rest of the golf team.”
