Summer Snapshot: Psychology major Megan Hirasaki ’26 studies abroad in New Zealand

Megan Hirasaki ’26, a psychology major, is currently studying abroad in New Zealand at Massey University for the fall! The program is run by ISEP, one of Whitworth’s international partner programs that offers more than 200 programs in over 60 countries.

Her classes focus on different learning styles, various cultural perspectives in psychology, structures of organizations, and growth in developing nations.

Hirasaki writes:

“My favorite part of my study abroad so far is all the interesting perspectives I’m learning about from Indigenous psychology, specifically with a Māori lens in my psychology classes here. I’m learning about how different cultures have various practices and traditions, which is helping me to expand my cultural competency.

“Something I didn’t expect to learn from my study abroad was improvement in time management skills. Meal prep, chores, classes and wellness can all become time-consuming, so it’s important that I allocate my time wisely. My planners and calendars have tremendously helped me stay organized!”
