Benjamin Barker ’17 has won the United States Navy Band’s 2024 Alton Augustus Adams Sr. Award for Emerging Composers for “A Hokusai Triptych,” his composition for concert band. Benjamin majored in music at Whitworth, completing tracks in music education and composition under Professor Brent Edstrom. He currently directs the jazz band and teaches multilingual learners at the International School of Tokyo in Japan.
“A Hokusai Triptych” was premiered by the Whitworth Wind Symphony last spring. As the winning composition, it will be performed and professionally recorded by the U.S. Navy Band.
