Faculty Q&A: Godfrey Keru, Chemistry

Meet Godfrey Keru, Ph.D., Whitworth’s new visiting assistant professor of chemistry. He teaches courses like Introductory Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Lab.

Q. What drew you to your academic discipline?

A. My high school teacher encouraged me to join the subject. Plus, the realization that chemistry enables me to determine the content of all manufactured products motivated me more.

Q. What advice would you give to a student who’s interested in studying chemistry at Whitworth?

A. Always take your work seriously and be ready to work hard and smart. The discipline is not difficult but calls for a lot of dedication.

Q. What’s something great about Whitworth’s chemistry department?

A. The department has very friendly and supportive faculty members who are always willing to help. The teamwork in the department is at another level.

JUST FOR FUN…

Q. What might your students be surprised to learn about you?

A. My apartment in Nairobi, Kenya, is next to Nairobi National Park, and wild animals like lions and leopards sometimes wander in my compound at night.

Q. What’s your favorite spot on campus?

A. My favorite spot is Mind & Hearth Coffee House; it is the first spot I visited the first day I landed on campus.
