Students in the Emmaus Program once again participated in a dynamic Spring Break service-learning trip to Eloheh, a farm and Indigenous center for earth justice in Oregon. The group, as well as Director Derek Taylor ’08 and the Rev. Lauren Taylor, helped with several projects, digging what will become a sensory garden for children with autism, clearing out and building racks for a woodshed, and hoisting up tepees. They also participated in Bible studies and had a full day of enriching conversation with Eloheh’s founders, the Rev. Randy Woodley, Ph.D., and Edith Woodley.
Emmaus is a yearlong communal discipleship program that is centered on following Jesus with our whole selves – body, soul, mind and spirit. It’s a beautiful reflection of Whitworth’s commitment to empowering students to serve humanity and do Christ’s reconciling and redeeming work in the world.
