Whitworth’s DPT and OTD programs launch Move2Thrive, a community exercise group

Whitworth’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) programs collaborated this fall to offer a new exercise group for the Spokane community. Move2Thrive is designed for individuals living with neurological diagnoses such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke or multiple sclerosis.

Led by faculty members, with the support of several first-year DPT students and one second-year OTD student, the class provides an uplifting environment where participants engage in meaningful movement, build relationships and enjoy a free group exercise opportunity. At the same time, students gain valuable hands-on experience and learn directly from the individuals they will one day serve as clinicians.

This new initiative beautifully reflects the service-oriented spirit of Whitworth’s DPT and OTD programs. Students and faculty are committed to living out the university’s mission to honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity with their minds, hearts and hands through education and community engagement.
