Whitworth’s jazz students shared their innovative artistic expression at the annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival last week, once again leaving on a high note! The Whitworth Jazz Orchestra was named the winner of the College Instrumental Large Ensemble Division at the University of Idaho festival, the largest of its kind in the West.
Whitworth musicians also earned top honors in two additional categories. In the College Instrumental Combo Division, the Infinity Jazz Combo won first place, while the Speak No Evil Jazz Combo earned runner-up honors. In the Solo Division, Christopher Rodriguez‑Chen ’28 (tenor saxophone) won first place, and Will Strauch ’28 (trombone) was named runner-up.
